Modern Breakdown

You’re cruising along the highway on that long awaited trip. All seems well ahead but suddenly a light comes up on your dashboard and your tow rig slows down. Welcome to the World of a modern breakdown.

If there is anything I can say about vehicles nowadays it’s that they really are quite reliable. The quality of parts such as rubber hoses and seals is far superior to days gone by. Radiator hoses seem to last forever while oil leaks are quite a rare occasion. Service your modern Diesel regularly and it will potentially last a very very long time. One area that does seem to have become much more complex for the roadside repairer though is a modern breakdown. Engine lights come on and the fix may not just be an ABC repair. To understand if a fix is possible with an engine fault we must first know what it is.

To find this out you need a diagnostic tool and the EDS (Engine Data Scan) is a good one at that. Equipped with a personal engine scan tool like this you can access the engines fault code area, find out what the code is and effect a fix or at least reset the code to keep you going to the next major help point.

We have had customers tell us how they have been able to keep resetting a fault every 10-15 km until they got to a major town. In the middle of nowhere this can be a difference between danger and safety for you. So the next time you venture out on that trip in your EFI controlled Diesel remember this tiny gadget might just keep your troubles at bay.
